Demolition of the bathroom

David shatters the towel bar with the sledgehammer. Note the pieces flying in the air above his head. We tried to tell him to use safety glasses, but NOOOOOooooo... fortunately his eyes are closed.

We decided to take out all the studs and the window, and put back up new
studs and make the inside a plain wall. We wouldn't have the wood rot /
poorly sealed window sill problem in the shower any more, and it would be
easier when putting up the new drywall and shower surround

I've said it
before and I'll say it again... who needs a pickup when I have my escort?
:-) Seriously, though, this some siding we had to bring back to patch up
the siding where the window was. It took quite a while to get the thing
scecured on top of the car, it would have been nice to have a pickup.

Matt and his friend Aaron helping to move in the new bathtub. The new bathtub
is a nice, new, real porcelain-on-cast-iron tub. It weighs somewhere between
300 and 350lb.
|
(extra-BIG) |
|
It was hard to put the tub in place... there's about 1/2" more than 5 feet
between studs, wall-to-wall, and the tub is about 1/2" short of 5 feet.
Matt is installing the drain. We had to cut a hole in the drywall of the
middle bedroom (the blue one) to get access to the drain, it was too hard
to reach around the tub.

As level as a goat, Evanda might say. Please don't zoom in to see exactly
how level a goat really is.

Kara picked out a carpet color for the front and back bedrooms. Unfortunately,
that brand was out of stock, and I needed to have the carpet installed within
the week (because Matt moves in at the end of the week). The guy came out
to show me colors, but I couldn't point to the right one. So I took some
pictures and showed them to Kara and Shelley to see which one I should use.
The patch one up and one to the right is the one we decided on.

The insulation was just a bit too narrow to fit between the studs on the
right side, and we were getting a bit frustrated. Fortunately, duct tape
came to the rescue.

Matt is really excellent at many, many things. Dancing, mathematics,
computer vision, and drywalling. Ladies, take note.

The tile around where the toilet will go. Note that this is Friday morning.
Matt moves in the next day. I'm leaving town before he moves in. So it's
really important to get the shower working and the toilet working. So I
just put tile around where the toilet goes. The rest of the floor gets
tiled later.
